The Old Dairy has a special history…
This family home started out as a dairy barn, part of a farm on the edge of Horton, in rural east Dorset. In 2008, it was lovingly restored and transformed into a beautiful family home by well-reputed developer Harry J Palmer.
Today, it is a spacious and yet cosy, modern home in the countryside, still as peaceful and rural as in its first days as a farm.
The home formed part of the old farm and was constructed as a new build, strickly adhearing to the conservation requirements to mirror the old farm buildings to ensure the landscape retains its history and remained unchanged.
Harry J Palmer worked closely with the planning authority to ensure close attention was paid to the historic detail, carefully matching its new timber windows to those of the original barn, and reclaiming roof tiles from the old farm buildings.
The original oak timbers were carefully and skillfully renewed by the craftsmen, copying the same traditional methods of construction and have been left exposed throughout the ground floor – reminders of its historic past.
This exclusive development has remained as one of Horton’s best kept secrets, with the gardens and grounds being enclosed and hidden by the surrounding buildings.
The town of Wimborne is with in easy driving distance offering a good selection of specialist shops, two super-markets, the Tivoli Theatre and other independent retailers, offering a range of restaurants, pubs, doctors and other facilities, including a soughtafter first and secondary secondary schools.
The coast is within easy reach with excellent sailing at Weymouth or Poole, with the Jurassic Coast and the North Dorset countyrside on your doorstep. There are local golf courses at Remedy Oak
